DO NOT BUY. Not deserving of 1 star, should be 0. I have two older Netgear N600 Routers and thought I would upgrade. Set up per their App did not work. Manual set up using IP address and settings did not work. Plugging in direct thru the LAN connections didn’t work either. Called Tech Support who takes all your information then transfers you to a technician / place where they don’t answer the phone or hang up after you tell them the issues.See more

We bought this router because we had a Netgear N150, which performed well for the past 6 years. However, since we recently upgraded our internet speed to 400 mbps, we need a faster router. This one advertise a speed of 1600 mbps. It’s a joke. I could barely get 50 mbps standing right next to the router. The worst part is, it disconnects every 30 minutes. For the few days we had it, I got disconnected from meetings give times and my son got disconnect from school and had to retake his midterm. We spend hours calling Specturm and doing research online trying to figure our what the problem is. We initially thought it was the modem, but after connecting our old N150 back, everything went back to normal. No more disconnections. We then purchased a TP-Link Archer A7, and it was spectacular. It is superfast and no more disconnections. Conclusion: This Netgear router is piece of junk, it’s worst then my 6 year old N150, and it’s even compare to the TP-Link Archer A7. We were lucky that we were able to return it, but we got a lot of headache and wasted a lot of time on it.See more

router works but Netgear does not provide Parent controls any more, bought it to monitor network traffic , and can’t do that. The netgear Genie app is no longer supported, and the Nighthawk app does not have Parental control as shown on the website.See more

Poor and confusing product support. Instructions only make sense to an expert. Was unable to set up two-tier login passwords and when I called for help the product was off the support period. I won’t be purchasing Netgear products in future and will ask to see the Product Manual BEFORE any future network router purchases.See more

This router worked good as long as I was right by it, but if I went into another room or got around 10 feet away from it my speed and signal would drop. I tried moving it to other areas in my apartment within my limit of cable length and still no matter where I put it when I got about 10 feet away the signal and speed dropped.See more

Netgear makes good, reliable computer networking equipment. I have used its equipment in my own home/office and with clients’ installations. This router is no exception. Notably, WiFi coverage with just the router can be as good as older equipment — say, router extender. It is very attractively priced. However, there’s a sneaky bit here: The smartphone management software is neither complete nor entirely honest. For a complete installation, the only real option — as with most routers — is to use the command interface in firmware. Netgear’s is very good, but deficient in that it omits support for, e.g., IPv6 addressing. Also, the app-based management tool includes a speed test that is deceptive. The reported speed is ISP-to-router, over a gigabit ethernet connection. It is NOT the >WiFi< speed, which is commonly about 20-25 percent of the hard-wire speed. (I checked this….) The external drive connection is unfortunately USB 2.0; most external drives support USB 3.0's higher transfer rate — desirable esp. if using a central backup strategy. Bottom line: This is a good router for a new installation, or for replacing a very old router. It may not be the best option for routers that are still in the "current spec" window, or for managed central backup installations.See more
