Arlo systems are very good. The had a distinct advantage in the market when they included 7 days of monitoring storage in the cloud. Unfortunately, they’ve gotten greedy and that isn’t included with models like the Arlo 3. However, you can still do local storage, which I set up to a 2TB Western Digital Elements hdd, which seems to be working great. It’s not a convenient, but it should work out ok for our needs. The cameras themselves are nice and the video quality is great, particularly if you set up to run them on power adapters instead of batteries. In addition to pushing their subscription service, they seem to also be pushing accessories. I found 3rd party compatible power adapters on Amazon for a reasonable price. Likewise with mounting accessories. I made a couple of simple stands instead of hard mounting or cameras, which gives us a lot more flexibility on location and blending into our decor. Lastly, I was really disappointed to learn that they decided to have the camera to base wifi communication run right on top of your router’s 2.4GHz and not make the channel configurable. Yes. Expensive….but, when required…your home is worth it. Set up is easy for a technical type person. You must download the App to your phone…follow their directions exactly. Of course, you must have one open port on your home existing router because the Arlo hub has to plug into that (110V power also). Hardest part once its up and running is aiming cameras to Only see the areas you want to detect motion in….and not record every squirrel or postal truck that runs by the house. Took me 3 days to find the sweet spot to permanently mount the outside camera….so don’t be in a rush. These cameras can not shoot through glass, it messes up the IR. No through the window shots.
